Best. Burgers. Ever. There is a reason (well, two, actually) Five Guys has exploded onto the domestic and now international "foodie" scene. Incredible burgers and fries. It's deceptively simple. Use quality ingredients sourced as locally as possible to create a delicious product. Very bright and clean restaurant done in white and red tile, this is efficient and quick, casual dining at its very best. Family friendly with access to shelled peanuts to busy yourself while you're waiting. But you won't wait long. There is a flawless system in place to deal with any volume that may come their way. And you (I meant the kids!) can play with the soda machine whose interface looks much like a well-designed web-page. The onset of franchise status can often ruin a restaurant. Not so with this favorite burger joint. Why? Because in addition to quality they have consistency. I've been a fan of Five Guys for well over a decade. I used to frequent one of the flagship restaurants in Virginia and have visited a handful of other locations in the Mid-Atlantic (and so happy to find one here back home). And the experience and food is consistently excellent. Truly remarkable food. The rest of the world is discovering FG too. A friend who recently visited London reported that the line just to get in the door wrapped around the block. "Totally worth it," I was enthusiastically told.

Everybody knows, or should know, that Five Guys makes a simply extraordinary burger. They have revolutionary fries, and as I found out today, a chocolate shake thats not bad. Anyway you go there for the burgers, and you can't do burgers any better than five guys. None of this is the reason why I'm writing this review today. I went to the South Portland five guys on crutches, immediately after getting a skin graph on my foot. I move pretty quickly on crutches, but by the time I made it from my car to the front door there were two Five guys employees to open the door for me and help me in. When my order was completed there was an employee waiting to take it out to the car for me. This kind of service is unexpected from any kind of business, let alone a fast food place, and speaks volumes about the culture and character of the business. From what I've seen of the employees in the downtown Portland shop, I might expect the same from them, they all seem happy and involved. Anyway, I was blown away by thier courtesy and decency. Whoever owns this franchise should feel a fair amount of pride in selling superior product in a manner that so clearly shows their values.

Meat lovers unite! This is not a vegetarian friendly place at all, but you probably knew that from the name of the restaurant. Five Guys is my guilty pleasure. I have to talk myself into it because it tastes so good, but it's so so bad for me. I think Five Guys is in a race for best burger with Elevation Burger and they are currently tied. The burgers here are some of the best I've ever had. The meat is juicy, cooked perfectly and has amazing flavor all on its own. I like the topping options and I often mix and match each time depending on my mood. This most recent visit I got a bacon burger with pickles, mayo, and grilled onions. The pickles were crunchy and the onions were nicely grilled. I prefer my burgers without cheese and I messed up this time by forgetting to ask for ketchup and mustard. It was still delicious and messy. In the burger race, Five Guys may come out the winner due solely to the fries. They are hand cut, crispy pieces of goodness in my mouth. I always order a smaller size and share because you get a ton and one person could eat all of them, but they would seriously regret it later. I like my Five Guys fries Cajun style because the seasonings just give them that extra little kick into awesome town. It's always crazy busy here and that means the staff may not always have a chance to clean up. The tables were cleaned off, but the floors needed some serious sweeping. Since I'm not eating off the floor, I didn't mind it as much. The quick service is always appreciated. I don't think I waited more than 5-7 minutes for my food and I'm pretty sure I inhaled it in about the same amount of time.

If you're a people watcher, you can always detect the regular patrons from the newbies just by glancing around the joint. I'm not always proud to consider myself among them, but hey, it's a really good fast food option, and I totally prefer it to the sit-down chains in the area. I'm so glad they opened a location near the mall. Here's some notes if you're a rookie looking to fit in: * Little burgers are a single patty, regular burgers are a double. * You always get more fries than you could possibly eat alone, but you will try to gobble them all anyway (usually at the protest of your dear belly). Order smaller than you think you should. * For the love of all that is good in the world, do not eat your fries out of the cup. Plop that paper bag on the table by the long side and rip the top off. All fries are now accessible (no reaching into the bag for the extras that were dumped in) AND you have a makeshift tablemat. * Bacon, 'nuff said. It's perfectly crispy and delicious.

Five stars for Five Guys. What can be said good about this place that hasn't already been said? Is it fast food? Perhaps. But I would rather go spend $10 at Five Guys than $5 at Burger King. And I feel better about it. The Burgers are fresh made, spot on, all the fixings. The fries are my favorite style and plentiful. This one is always busy for a reason. Not only is the food great but the staff here is really representative of what Five Guys is all about.

Awesome burgers!! Love the amazing selection of toppings. Fries are awesome, just be careful because the sizes do not match what other restaurants say. A large fry is about enough fries to feed the family. I'm glad they have the little fry since I often go alone. Customer service is awesome here and the energy is always up beat and positive.

I was really excited to try Five Guys after years of hearing out of state friends talk about how awesome they are! I was sooooo disappointed! Tasteless & dry overcooked meat, not so awesome. Lots of toppings to choose from, which is good, because you need them to add some flavor! The fries were pretty good, but I didn't go for the fries :/ For that price (WAY too much for the quality they offer, IMO) Elevation Burger is right up the street and always delish!!

I took my son to this eatery after hearing for months and months on how great their burgers and fries were. The service was great, quick and speedy ... only a very small wait for them to cook our food and the place was packed to the gills which tells me that these burgers that my son and I ordered will be the cream of the crop. We got our greasy bag and sat down in the dining area but the tables were riddled with old and stale fries from the previous 4 or 5 people that were sitting there. So service went from great and quick to not so much for germs and cleanliness. The burger that I got for myself was a bacon cheeseburger with onions and it was no different than I would get at a buffet line from some greasy sliders thrown around. The fries (which is what I heard was the best part of the experience) were both cold and not very good ... the container that they gave us was basically dumped into the bottom of the bag that we had so my son and I were digging around this big bag for some potato snacks. It is pretty bad when you go and you ask an eight year old if he liked his burger and fries and he answers with a "It was ok". Wait ... what??? Most eight year olds would be jumping at the bit to eat another one of these usually instant kid gratifyers. So, to sum it up, service .. friendliness and speedy in the kitchen was great. Cleanliness not so much. Quality of the food, for the price that we paid for these greasy delights we should have gotten much more for our bite. Sorry Five Guys I really wanted to give you a better review.

Awful....just awful, I can honestly say this is top five worst meals I have ever had. I tried it after hearing coworkers rave about it. First, everything is well done.....strike one! No rare burger, no return visit. Strike two, the place reminded me of a human feeding trough. Strike three... FILTHY! After waiting and unfortunately watching the staff for 15 minutes I got my food. I swear that 12 of those 15 minutes were occupied by the staff changing their gloves... JUST USE YOUR HANDS!!! Finally got back to work with my 'food'...two bites....straight to the trash!

Five Guys is my preferred way to fulfill a burger craving. I think it's the best of fast service burger joint there is. My bacon is always crispy (and always with extra at my request - bacon!!!!) and burgers the perfect greasy cheesy goodness that you are looking for. Plenty of topping choices for endless customizing and great fries. Plus I enjoy this particular location vs. the downtown location for ease of access. Lots of parking and quick to get in and out of. I feel another craving coming on....

The best basic burger place in Maine and the closest to Fuddrucker's you can get this side of the country.

I enjoyed the fries more than the bacon cheese burger. Maybe I'm not a raving fan because we have this place in CA. It is not as good as In-n-Out Burgers or Mighty Fine Burgers in Austin, TX. Maybe I should try something unique from Portland, Maine. Lobster? Sea Dog perhaps tomorrow or Thursday.

Yes, Five Guys is a chain restaurant. But I say thank goodness, because it is an AWESOME chain! If you're reading this review and you like burgers and/or fries, make immediate plans to visit your nearest Five Guys ASAP. Of course not every location is as spectacular as the next. In this particular case, the restaurant itself is a stand-alone rather than part of a strip mall, and it is quite large and very clean compared to other locations I've visited. The employees had the characteristic Five Guys friendliness and enthusiasm (I seriously don't know how Five Guys recruits all the upbeat happy people--unless maybe eating Five Guys food on a regular basis just makes you happy) and even went above and beyond the call of duty and brought my food to my table. And of course, the FOOD! I don't know which I love most, the burgers or the fries...I would really rather have a Five Guys burger than a much more expensive burger almost anywhere else, and the fries are my absolute favorite classic straight-up fries in the world. Fresh cut, skin-on, fried in peanut oil, amazing. This chain does just two things--burgers and fries--and does those two things to perfection. And you can get a gourmet burger, fries and a soda for less than ten bucks. Awesome!

Five Guys is just where it's at for me. I am not usually a fan of fast food in any form, but... these burgers are incredible. The Old Port location is still my favorite, but this one is so convenient if you're out near the Mall -- lots of seating, quick service, and AMAAAAZING food!

Five Guys recently opened stopped by today on the 4th of July! Place was pretty busy! Everyone was super busy!! I sat at a table right in the front and it was amazing to watch these guys/and woman in action!!! They were just completely in sync and amazing. I ordered a little cheeseburger the regular one for me is always just waay too much, a small fry and a drink. My cheeseburger was cooked to perfection and yummy! Always is. The place was completetly spotless and there was another employee walking around cleaning up the entire dining room. I'll definitely be coming back to this place for sure!

Another amazing burger place that makes my top 3 list. I first experienced FIVE guys in the Miami area but within a short while they had one in the old port in Portland. I actually went there the day it opened and was immediately in love. They claimed my number 1 spot for a good six months. I frequent this place and they now have one in South Portland. It's truly amazing we have both elevation burger and five guys in Maine now. If you have never tried FIVE guys JUST DO IT. It's awesome and very close in quality to elevation burger or in and out burger. The peanuts while waiting is a nice touch especially when you bring kids.

Why aren't they using Maine potatoes in their french fries? For me there's nothing more frustrating than seeing them advertise hand cut french fries from a farm and then not use a LOCAL vendor for the products. That was the main reason for giving the place three stars. You're in Maine, you should be featuring Maine potatoes. You definitely get a lot of burger for your buck. My $5.99 cheeseburger had everything on it and was HUGE. At first I thought the price was high, but once I saw the size of my burger it made sense. I will say I thought the burger was a bit bland ( and I had everything on it), but I'm the type that likes a lot of onions and kick. I went at lunchtime and the place was chaos. If you're looking for a quiet place to have a burger this would not be a good place to go. I could barely hear people talking over the noise and the music.
